Taking romcom to new and sophisticated heights, writer-director Marc Lawrence and Hugh Grant (Music And Lyrics, Two Weeks Notice) collaborate for a fourth time, and arguably it’s their best yet.

Grant plays Keith Michaels, a washed-up scriptwriter who’s lost his wife to the director of his one big hit. A gaping hole in his finances obliges him to take up teaching wannabe screenwriting titans, his students including a hard-working single mother (Tomei) and a sexy undergrad (Bella Heathcote, Dark Shadows).

His bitterly estranged son and his haughty college boss (Janney, The Way Way Back) further undermine his fading self-belief, but Keith (and indeed Grant) manages to dig deep and recover his charm, to suitably entertaining ends.
