In this feature length version of Sky Arts’ breathtaking experimental documentary, new Doctor Who Peter Capaldi (In The Loop, TV’s The Thick Of It) takes the role of Leonardo Da Vinci, performing readings from his memoirs and letters in order to build an impression of the life, art and inventions of the Renaissance master. Interspersing state of the art CGI visualisations of some of Da Vinci’s most complex designs and theories, with breathtaking photography of modern Italy and Capaldi’s astonishingly vivid performance, the film paints a fascinating picture of a tortured genius, his life and work very much ahead of the times.
