The Experience

When planning the 88 seat cinema and our new second screen for Northampton, we spoke to a lot of people and visited a lot of cinemas, many recommended by friends, colleagues and audiences members through social media. We wanted to know what people liked or disliked about their local cinema, which cinemas they would rush back to, and what made these film houses special. Rarely did anyone speak about the films. They talked about the seats, the bars, the food, the passionate staff, the glassware.

In short, they valued being treated as grown-ups. We value this too.

All our seats are premium seats and our accessible spaces for wheelchairs have a great view too.

We sourced our luxury leather seats and side tables from Skeie in Norway, and our architects, One 17, and main contractor, Elite Systems, have worked closely with our acoustic engineers to ensure that the sound is as good as it can be. As with the elegant cedar wood clad exterior, the interior of both of the screens is deceptively simple, but works hard to ensure a quality sound and vision experience.

We offer a small menu of delicious and quiet(er) snacks. We considered not selling the cinema classic, popcorn, as it is too often disappointing and noisy. However, having decided that it is an essential part of the film going experience, we sell sweet and salted varieties.

Each of our two screens has a bar at the rear of the auditorium, typically opening 30 minutes before each advertised film start time. Drinks, served in glass or crockery, can be enjoyed from your seat (plastic cups are available too though). As well as excellent wines, bottled beers, juices and spirits, we stock Warner Edwards Gin, Gallones ice-cream, a range of coffee and Fritz Kola soft drinks.

You should expect a warm welcome every time you visit. Our programme includes screenings exclusively for parents and their babies, and silver screenings for our more mature visitors.

Finally, a few words about our ‘start times’. This is the time that we aim to start the main feature (give or take five minutes), however, we strive to open doors to the auditorium and bar 30 minutes earlier. During this period we will be showing adverts and trailers and serving drinks and snacks. But, we promise not to plunge you into darkness until the actual film begins.

We aim to make the Northampton Filmhouse experience available to all. For information on Access, please click here.

We really look forward to welcoming you very soon, to enjoy both a great experience AND a brilliant film.
