EFFIE Awards 2016 – The Winners

On Monday 20 June, we marked our third birthday and the 107th anniversary of Errol Flynn’s birth by announcing the winners of our EFFIE Awards.

Over the past few weeks we had asked our audiences to vote for their favourite films, documentaries and live events seen here since June 2015.

The award for the Best of the Biggest Selling Films went to the hugely awaited blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens, whilst the Best Classic Film was awarded to Robert Mulligan’s touching adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird.

Best Documentary was AmyAsif Kapadia’s moving portait of singer Amy Winehouse.  Best Live Event was awarded to by our annual Eurovision Song Contest celebration.

Best Film not in the English Language went to Argentine comedy Wild Tales and the award for the best film shown in the our Under The Radar season was won by the hilarious Tangerine.

Finally the Audience Choice category of overall Favourite Film, to be picked from any that had been shown during the year, went to Alan Bennett’s The Lady In The Van, starring Maggie Smith.
