The Errol Flynn Filmhouse has been developed by the team at Royal & Derngate Northampton; one of the UK’s most acclaimed regional theatres. The new cinema, situated adjacent to the theatres, opened on Thursday 20 June 2013, on the birthday of Hollywood icon, Errol Flynn.
World class artists and actors have been (and continue to be) regular visitors to Northampton for over 125 years, but perhaps the most famous of all is Tasmanian born Errol Flynn, who spent 6 months as a member of the acting company of Northampton Rep (now known as Royal & Derngate), before heading to Hollywood where he made his name and fortune.
When launching the new cinema, we decided to take this opportunity to celebrate this connection by naming the cinema in his honour.
The new cinema has been made possible by the generosity and support of a number of partners. We are grateful to all who have ‘named a seat’ and to those who have provided grant, sponsorship and financing for this project, in particular:
As a registered charity, Royal & Derngate is generously supported by grants from:
All profits generated from the Errol Flynn Filmhouse will be donated annually to Northampton Theatres Trust (on behalf of Royal & Derngate). This assists the theatres to continue to produce highly acclaimed theatre (Made In Northampton) present a wide range of live entertainment and enable young people and families from throughout the county to participate in award winning arts related activities.
